Guest Blogging is Like Giving The Perfect Gift

holiday guest bloggingThe holiday season is in full swing, and if you’ve been busy shopping, you know that picking out the perfect present for a loved one is one of the most rewarding parts of getting in the spirit.

Just like gift giving, writing a guest blog for a website you find meaningful can bring as much satisfaction to you as a business owner. Think of guest blogging in terms of putting together a gift, and you’ll ensure the recipient doesn’t want to return or exchange your offering.

Finding the Perfect Gift

If you’re new to guest blogging, first you’ll want to find the right site to guest blog for. Just like you might make a list of people who are worthy enough to receive a holiday present from you, you’ll first want to research relevant sites that might make good fits for the content your business can provide.

Look at sites your customers love, comb through contacts you’ve made though the years, and try to find high-traffic, relevant sites whose readers would appreciate your message. You wouldn’t give a well-thought-out gift to a stranger, so make sure your content is offered to sites you respect and value.

Preparing Your Gift

Now that you know who you’re going to blog for, it’s time to figure out what type of writing “gift” will really resonate with the audience. Just like you might research merchants to find a great deal on a product, conducting research before you write your guest blog, is also important.

  • Before you purchase a gift, you’re going to get a feel for what types of things the recipient enjoys. Similarly, when getting ready to write a guest blog, peruse previous entries on the site to get a feel for the type of voice on the blog.
  • You wouldn’t want to give a present to someone who already has the item, so similarly, check past articles to make sure you’re not duplicating content.
  • Be sure that what you’re writing appropriate to the audience. You wouldn’t give a toddler a smartphone, so don’t give a blog about beauty regimens to a gardening website.

Wrapping the Package

Now that you have the content, or “present,” you’ll want to make it look like a really pretty package. Bows and ribbons can really make your gift stand out under the tree, and, likewise, a nicely packaged blog post will help make the editor love you.

  • It’s amazing what the little details in a guest blog post can do to alleviate stress of an editor. Suggest a headline, include an author bio, and break out paragraphs and bullet points.
  • Hyperlink any terms you want highlighted within the post.

And, if you’re the recipient of the guest blog, don’t just snatch up the present and run away with it. Send a thank you note. Let the writer know what kind of impact their words made on your community and why you appreciate them.

Following up with gratitude might make them feel generous enough to keep providing you with great content in the future, and you’ll be able to feel the holiday spirit year-round.
