Fostering employee engagement is key for creating a productive office environment. So whether you have a large or small workforce, making your employees feel valued and engaged isn't something you should overlook.
If you don't know where to start, hone in on what helps employees feel more engaged: communication. There are many apps and tools out there that simplify the communication process for your team (especially if you have remote workers). Messaging apps like Slack allow employees to talk, share and strategize no matter where they are, while regularly surveying your employees with tools like Culture Amp lets them know that you care about their satisfaction.
We asked 10 entrepreneurs from YEC to weigh in on the tools they use to increase engagement around the office. Their best answers are below:
We use Trello at the office. Everybody has an account and is familiarized with it from day one. I find that it helps increase employee productivity and engagement. We use 15Five to check in weekly with everyone on any pain points, wins, frustrations, goals, etc. Twice a year, we also survey our employees on their career satisfaction. In the office, we use Slack to stay connected and engaged. It's a quick way to share files, reach everyone at once, and hold private conversations. Being able to create multiple channels is very helpful when a team needs to strategize for a client. iDoneThis is our favorite employee engagement tool. It's simple. Reply to one evening email with what you got done that day. The next morning, your team receives a recap of what everyone did. The best way to get employees to collaborate and engage is through a project management software like Teamwork. Skype is a useful tool that has helped me reach out to staff for long or short chats depending on the amount of time we each have. These regular one-on-one conversations really help me to get to know them and gives them the ability to reach me at any time. To save time, my team uses the voice recording feature of WhatsApp. It allows us to convey emotion in our responses, have proof of what tasks people were asked to do, and save each other's responses easily. Leaving a voice message is simple, especially for long answers. 10. Company-Wide Wiki
We use a company wiki to document all of our ideas, processes and product specs. It’s great because it keeps everyone up to date on what needs to be done. You can tag team members on projects that they are needed on, and you can get email notifications when changes are made in the wiki.
