Create Your Own iPhone App

You don't need to be a web guru to design your own iPhone "app" (that's apple-speak for "application"). The newly launched Sweb Apps creates well-designed, customizable apps for a myriad of businesses, from restaurants to non-profits to retail stores. Through your app, customers can make purchases, contact you by phone or email, read your blog, and much more. Sweb Apps charges a one-time setup fee of $200-400, plus a hosting fee of $25/month. --Brian Luskey, Associate Editor

Seagate Technology has launched three new external storage devices for small business that include features such as automated full-system backup and SafetyDrill software that can restore your entire system if a computer disaster strikes. Models range from 500GB to 4TB of shared storage capacity and offer AES 256-bit government-grade encryption to secure your data. Prices start at $160. --Brian Luskey, Associate Editor

Sensible Surge Suppressor

You know how hard it is to use all six sockets on a surge suppressor?  One or more or the power adapters is always sized or angled so that it takes up two sockets, right?   Well, the new Socket Sense surge strip solves the problem neatly: It expands to just the right length to fit any adapter and the sockets are angled so you can plug in the adapters from different directions.  At $29.99 it easily saves you the cost of buying that second strip to handle the overflow.  Check out a competitor product, the Power Squid, with six tentacle-like wires coming out of a base but Socket Sense is definitely the tidiest solution.  --Jeff B. New Screen Recording Service is a Game-Changer

Here's a new "screen casting" service I already love, and I've only had a brief test drive. It could change how you think about presentations. On the What Works for Business usefulness scale, it's a winner. It's called GoView and it's a super-cool new all-in-one screen recording, editing and sharing service just launched by the same innovative folks at Citrix Online who brought us the popular GoToMeeting, GoToMyPC and other services. GoView's simplicity is stunning, surpassed only by its versatility and potential as a tool for business owners and entrepreneurs. And (for now at least) it's free. Read more.
