Building Blocks

Building blocks are widely used in construction--and it's easy to see why. Block wall construction isn't vulnerable to termites or carpenter ants, and it certainly withstands fires. Properly installed, construction blocks stand up to harsh weather conditions and earthquakes, too. Other advantages to concrete block construction include a soundproof quality and temperature comfort within a building.

There are several types of building blocks to choose from. The two most common are architectural and gray block (also called precision block). You may also purchase other types of building blocks for specialized projects. So before seeking out building blocks for sale, consider the following:

1. Architectural construction blocks are functional and attractive.

2. Gray building blocks are practical and modern.

3. Some jobs may benefit from specialty building blocks.

Choose architectural building block for aesthetics

Generally, architectural block is defined as a practical concrete block that is also especially attractive. Split face rock is reminiscent of old flagstone houses. There's also scored and ground block for a different look, and cement blocks in colors to suit any taste.

Select gray construction block for commercial building

Gray blocks have a long history, but they also have a modern, stark appearance. They are ideal as blocks for a wall--and are also often used as foundation blocks.

Find specialty building blocks for particular jobs

Sometimes innovative and unique products can improve the quality of your finished construction. Consider, for example, concrete blocks that don't require footings, saving you considerable time and money. Or perhaps your client would be pleased if you used environmentally friendly, "green" products. Check out the possibilities!
  • Whatever sort of building blocks you choose, be sure to keep them dry once they're at the job site. A well-secured tarp will do the trick.
