Before I dive into those secrets, however, you need to understand one thing. To make you content go viral, you first have to create viral-worthy content.
You cannot expect to market a half-assed article and see it being shared by Entrepreneur Magazine.

That’s the type of content you want to create. With that out of the way, let’s get started.
1. Reach Out to People You Know Who Share Similar Content
If you ever notice someone who continually pops up in your newsfeed sharing similar content to what you have written, reach out to them and ask if they would be willing to share your content. While I recommend that you focus your efforts on people who have a large network, there is no such thing as bad publicity on your quest for your first viral article. Even if the person you are reaching out to only has a network of a few hundred people, that is still a few hundred people more than you would have had otherwise.
2. Repackage Your Content as a YouTube Video or Podcast
Some people hate to read. It’s just how it is. But more than a general distaste for reading, there are a number of people in your audience who likely absorb and enjoy information more whenever it is in an audio or video format. If you want to expand the reach of your content as much as possible, then turn it into a YouTube video or Podcast.
You can either release the whole article on these mediums or you can create teasers to encourage readers to go to your website. Either way, by utilizing the power of multiple media marketing, you will massively increase the reach of your content and the number of eyes (or ears) who enjoy and share what you have written.
3. Reach Out to Influencers
Another great way to boost the odds of your content going viral is to reach out to influencers. When you go about doing this, you typically have two options. The first option is to reach out to high-level influencers in your niche and ask for a quote on the topic you wrote about.
If you have written a viral worthy post, most influencers (who can be accessed) will be more than happy to provide you with a quote revealing their thoughts on your article. This is a fantastic way to use the power of social proof to add some authority to your brand and increase the odds of other influencers to share your content.
The second option that you have is to cut to the chase and ask an influencer if they would be willing to share your content flat out. This is a great method if you have already established some rapport with the person you are asking to share your content but should not be used if they couldn’t tell you from Adam.
4. Don’t Ignore Any Social Platform
Something that I often notice whenever people ask for my advice on getting their content viral is that they overlook social media platforms like Slideshare, Instagram, and Pinterest simply because of the site’s focus on visuals. However, whenever you do this, you are severely limiting the scope of your content. If you are creative enough, you can use any social media platform to boost your content. Put the link to your article in your Instagram bio for a couple of weeks and post pictures that promote your post. Do the same with Pinterest and Slideshare and watch your content go viral.
5. Get Involved in the Conversation
If you want people to share your content and aid you in your quest for a viral article, you need to get involved in the conversation. Whenever they post their articles on a social media platform, they respond to all of the comments they receive.
Whenever they send their articles to their email list, they respond to any replies that they get. You can do that too. Get the conversation going and keep it going. This will encourage people to share and promote your content within their own networks and will indirectly (but massively) increase the scope of your content marketing efforts for your article.

Getting your content to go viral is not an easy endeavor. However, it is simple, and it is doable. But you have to understand that the key to viral content lies more in the marketing than in the writing. Yes, writing content that is worthy of going viral in the first place is important, but there are hundred upon thousands of viral worthy articles on the internet with almost zero views, and dozens of mediocre articles that have achieved virality through intelligent content marketing. So if you want to get your article viral, write great content, but focus on the marketing.
