Action Steps
The best contacts and resources to help you get it done

Find a wealth of aquaculture information from government and other sources

Jump right into the aquaculture pond with lots of aquaculture information from a variety of sources.

I recommend: Start your aquaculture search with the Aquaculture Network Information Center (AquaNIC). AquaNIC is a portal to a large number of aquaculture resources. Check out the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration's Aquaculture Information Center. Consider going to an Aquaculture Center for Training, Education and Demonstration (ACTED) program. Take a look at the non-for-profit group SeaWeb's plethora of aquaculture references and aquaculture info.

Learn more about fish farm information through industry publications

Aquaculture information resources and information can be easily attained through industry magazines, journals and papers.

I recommend: Subscribe to Aquaculture Magazine, and your subscription will include their Annual Products Issue and their Annual Buyer's Guide & Industry Directory. Sign up for the four-color, bimonthly publication of the Global Aquaculture Advocate. Every issue of the publication includes current seafood concerns, efficient and responsible aquaculture technology and commercial advertising. Sign up for your subscription to Journal of Applied Aquaculture, published by Haworth Press. Check out the publications available through the Minnesota Sea Grant. Some are inexpensive and most are free.

Gain even more fish farming information through industry organizations and alliances

Industry groups offer you a wide variety of fish farming information and resources including continuing education, conferences, seminars, industry trends and more.

I recommend: Join the World Aquaculture Society. Once a member, you can take advantage of conferences, presentations, publications, meeting, education, employment opportunities and more. Check out the upcoming activities of the Global Aquaculture Alliance. Become a member of Salmon of the Americas, which includes members from the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Look into the American Tilapia Association. There you can find photos, links, recipes, free tilapia farming software, tilapia prices, imports, markets and financials, an intro to tilapia culture, aquaculture drugs and Federal Drug Administration (FDA) information as well as information on the nutritional value of tilapia.
