Thyssen Industrie AG ,a member of the Thyssen AG group, manufactures car bodies, components and spare parts for cars, lifts, conveyor systems as well as other capital goods for the industrial & public sector. The company is also engaged in ship building and engineering services. In fiscal 1997 Thyssen Industrie AG bought Giddings & Lewis (USA) a company involved in manufacturing of machine tools. The company has worldwide subsidiaries. Car bodies accounted for 28% of fiscal 1997 revenues; lifts, 24%; forged products, 12%; conveyor systems, 11%; castings, 9%; ship building, 7%; engineering services, 7% and plastics, 2%.
