Koppers, Inc.. The Group's principal activity is to produce carbon compounds and treated wood products for use in a variety of markets including the railroad, aluminum, chemical, utility and steel industries. The Group has two segments namely carbon materials and chemicals and railroad and utility products. The Carbon materials and chemicals division manufactures carbon pitch, phthalic anhydride, creosote, carbon black and furnace coke. The Railroad and utility products division provides various products and services to railroads, including crossties, track and switch pre-assemblies and disposal services. This segment supplies treated wood poles to electric and telephone utilities and provides wood treating services for vineyards, construction and commercial applications. The Group operates 33 manufacturing facilities located in North America, Australasia, China, Europe and South Africa.
