By Felicia R. Blue

Learn all about Microsoft Windows operating systems; once you master this operating system, it will open doors for you. For example, you can be a Microsoft certified systems engineer. This will allow you to design and implement Microsoft Windows servers solutions for businesses. You can also be a Microsoft Windows operating systems network administrator.

You don’t have to spend years in college. Instead, you can find valuable materials on Microsoft operating systems, such as attending seminars or reading white papers. Because Microsoft releases new versions of Windows OS, it's important to stay on top of this operating system. Here are three ways to get Microsoft Windows operating systems education and training:

2. Become familiar with Microsoft Windows operating systems by reading book or user’s guides.

3. Acquire more information about Microsoft Windows operating systems by studying white papers.

Action Steps
The best contacts and resources to help you get it done

Become proficient in Microsoft operating systems; get certified

Becoming certified is one of the best ways to obtain Microsoft Windows operating systems education and training. By taking preparation courses, you will learn how to troubleshoot computer systems that run on Windows operating systems. You will also learn how to support customers or end-users.

I recommend: ExpertRating offers Microsoft Windows operating system preparation courses. These are online tutorials. You will learn how to install, configure, and manage Microsoft Windows XP operating systems. The website uCertify also offers Microsoft Windows operating systems courses. You will receive comprehensive Microsoft Windows operating systems education and training because it contains more than 179 study notes and technical articles. Brainbench offers certification courses and tests on a wide range of Windows systems.

Research books or user's guides to get more information about Microsoft Windows operating systems

Perhaps you're an OEM (Original Equipment Manaufacturer) or IT consultant where you need to install Windows OS onto new hardware systems. Consider investing in books or user's guides on MS operating systems; check the Internet for the latest books on the subject. You will learn about the requirements that are needed to deploy the Windows operating system application.

I recommend: Free Ebook Manual Download has a guide that’s called The Insider’s Guide to Windows Vista Operating System. This guide offers in-depth Windows operating system information. You will learn about improvements in security, network capabilities, and support for DirectX 10 graphics. Microsoft also has documentation called the Windows Automated Installation Kit, which helps OEMs and IT consultants to install Windows OS onto new computer hardware.

Study white papers to get Windows operating system information

You might be an IT consultant or Microsoft Windows OS network administrator. One of the things you must do is keep learning about the MS operating systems. You must learn about new upgrades or patches that the company releases. You also want to learn about new features or issues the Windows OS has. One of the ways to keep on top of this information is to rely on white papers.

I recommend: CBS Interactive has a white paper on Windows Vista that talks about this software in terms of how much voltage to apply to a PC card device. InformationWeek Business Technology also has a white paper on Windows Vista.

Guide to Microsoft Windows Operating Systems

Microsoft Windows operating systems: knowledge is power

By Colleen Loew

Microsoft operating systems are the chief symbols of modern computer technology in many ways. Windows operating system information is either basic for the novice user or highly technical for the programming expert. Microsoft has developed a variety of versions of the Windows operating system, with increased levels of capability with each revision. The end user significantly benefits from each new version introduced to the marketplace.

Each Windows OS provides measurable and user friendly offerings that demonstrate Microsoft's power and knowledge in the marketplace. Information regarding troubleshooting the Windows operating system is readily available through a technical interface. In addition, basic Windows operating systems information is typically derived through technology-based personnel in business organizations, as well as call centers.

1. Information about Microsoft Windows operating systems is an important source of technology-based power for today's businesses.

2. Microsoft Windows operating systems are the foundation of many business computers and require routine evaluation to prevent problems.

3. A Windows operating system requires careful attention and caution upon system startup and shutdown.

Action Steps
The best contacts and resources to help you get it done

Compare Microsoft operating systems to identify the best fit for your business

Each organization has different needs with respect to Windows operating systems, depending upon the nature of the business. Before making a Windows operating system purchase, consider all possible options and evaluate prices and the potential for customizations whenever possible.

I recommend: Browse Windows Marketplace to identify Windows operating system choices and related prices. Review PriceRunner to determine which Windows operating system is appropriate, based upon specific needs.

Maintain Microsoft Windows operating systems with routine updates and service packs

Microsoft operating systems require regular updates. This is accomplished through service packs, which are available on the Microsoft website. Routine updates maintain the integrity and technology-based capabilities of the Microsoft Windows operating system, particularly when spyware or viruses often infiltrate computers at alarming rates.

I recommend: The Microsoft download center enables users to download service packs and other updates as needed to keep systems operating smoothly. MajorGeeks.com provides links to Windows service packs for the many versions of the popular operating system.

Investigate security flaws in Microsoft Windows operating systems on a regular basis

Any user of Microsoft Windows operating systems might experience system flaws or errors from time to time related to breaches in system security. Users that discover these flaws benefit from knowledge regarding security identifiers (SID) and other security patches that are integral to the longevity of any operating system.

I recommend: Microsoft help and support provides basic information related to security identifiers to enhance system benefits. PC Tools software offers links designed to protect Windows operating systems from unnecessary damage.

Tips & Tactics

Helpful advice for making the most of this Guide

  • •  Consider Microsoft Windows Operating Systems for user friendliness and compatibility. However, pay attention to unusual behavior, timeouts, and other problems that could signal an operating system breakdown. Without repairs, your computer could be scarred for life.

Guide to Microsoft Windows Operating Systems Key Terms

Learn the versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems

By Emmet McMahan

Microsoft Windows is the name for a series of operating systems made by Microsoft. The first version was introduced in 1985, and Windows comprised 90 percent of the personal computer operating system market by 2004. Microsoft has pursued two routes with its operating systems: one for the home user and one for professional users. Home versions of Windows that are currently supported include Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows Home Server. Professional versions of Windows that are currently supported are Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008.

Action Steps
The best contacts and resources to help you get it done

Windows XP

Windows XP is available in both home and professional versions. It has simplified navigation and search capabilities, and improved device detection.

I recommend: Microsoft provides an extensive glossary of Windows terms, including Windows XP.

Windows Vista

Windows Vista is intended as a replacement for Windows XP. It contains many new features, such as an improved graphical user interface, advanced searching and new multimedia tools.

I recommend: Real Knowledge provides a description of Windows Vista and a comparison of features for the four versions of Windows.

Windows Home Server

Windows Home Server is a version of Windows that is intended for homes with more than one connected PC. It has automated backups, file sharing and remote access.

I recommend: Bright Hub offers detailed information on the advantages of using Microsoft Windows Home Server.

Windows 2000

Windows 2000 is an older professional version of Windows that was replaced by Windows Server 2003. However, it is still in use and will receive extended support from Microsoft until 2010.

I recommend: Active Network provides a description of Windows 2000 and answers other questions about Windows 2000.

Windows Server 2003

Windows Server 2003 has a number of editions, but they all have the ability to share files and perform other server functions. Other capabilities of Windows Server 2003 include providing authenticating users, email services and hosting message queues.

I recommend: TheITLibrary.com summarizes the features in Windows Server 2003 and also provides an overview of the installation procedure for Windows Server 2003.

Windows Server 2008

Windows Server 2008 is the successor to Windows Server 2003. It is built from the same code base as Windows Vista and shares many of its features. Windows Server 2008 also allows system resources to be partitioned dynamically, such that each partition may have its own processor and memory.

I recommend: Network World provides a review of Windows Server 2008 and describes many of its features.
