AES Corporation (The). The Group's principal activity is to generate and distribute electric power. The Group operates in three business segments: Contract Generation: Supplies wholesale electricity under long-term contracts for more than 75% of the Group's output. Competitive Supply: Supplies electricity, both wholesale and retail, pursuant to short-term contracts or spot electricity markets. Regulated Utilities: Utilities of significant size that maintain a monopoly franchise within a defined service area. The Group has international operations in South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean countries. The Group operates in 20 countries, generating 36,400 megawatts of electricity through 107 power facilities. On 30-Mar-2005, the Group acquried SeaWest Holdings Inc. Regulated Utilities acctd for 52% of 2005 revenues; Contract Generation, 37% & Competitive Supply, 11%
