Allete, Inc.. The Group's principal activities are carried out in two business segments: Automotive services and Energy services. Automotive services includes a network of wholesale and total loss vehicle auctions, a finance company, a vehicle remarketing company, a company that provides vehicle inspection services to the automotive industry and its lenders and a company that provides Internet based parts location and insurance claim audit services. Energy services include electric and gas services, coal mining and telecommunications. The Group also has real estate operations, investments in emerging technologies related to the electric utility industry, a securities portfolio and corporate charges. The Group operates in 42 states, 9 Canadian provinces and Mexico. Automotive services accounted for 56% of 2002 revenues; Energy services, 42% and Investments and corporate charges, 2%.
