Appalachian Power Company. The Group's principal activities are to generate, transmit and distribute electric power to about 942,000 retail customers in southwestern Virginia and southern West Virginia. The Group is a wholly owned subsidiary of American Electric Power Company, Inc. The customers of the Group include retailers, other electric utility companies and municipalities. The industries served by the Group are coal mining, primary metals, chemicals and textile mill products. The subsidiaries of the Group are Cedar Coal Co., Central Appalachian Coal Company and Southern Appalachian Coal Company. In January 2005, sold a 98% controlling interest in HPL. Generates, transmits & distributes electric power customers in the southwestern portion of Virginia & southern West Virginia
