NRG Energy Incorporated. The Group's principal activity is to acquire, develop, and operate power generation facilities, sale of energy and related products in the United States and other foreign countries. In addition to power generation projects, the Group has interests in district heating and cooling systems and steam transmission operations. As of 31-Dec-2001 the Group owned all or a portion of 76 generation projects, including projects under construction, that have a total generating capacity of 38,388 megawatts (MW). The Group is organized into four regionally based divisions namely NRG North America, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota; NRG Europe, based in London; NRG Asia-Pacific based in Brisbane, Australia and NRG Latin America, based in Miami, Florida. Independent power generation accounted for 93% of 2001 revenues; thermal power, 4%; alternative energy, 3% and other, nominal.
