Braunschweigische Kohlen-Bergwerke AG(BKB). The Company's principal activity is the generation and distribution of electrical power to the south-eastern area of the federal state of Lower Saxonia, as well as feeding electricity into the transregional distribution network of PreussenElektra AG. The Company also produces coal for its power plants by means of extensive surface mining operations. In addition, the Company markets sulphur- and sodium-based chemicals which are by-products of the smoke purification systems of its power plants, trades in oil products (heating oil, heavy industrial oils) and distributes natural gas. The Company also provides drinking water and is engaged in refuse utilization and recycling. The Company has domestic subsidiaries only.
