Guide to Air Pollution Control Organizations

Stay abreast of issues, news and trends by joining air pollution control organizations

By Tai G., Writer

If you are an air component supplier, or a company, educator, or community mem looking to reduce your carbon emissions, you would do well to partner with pollution organizations to strengthen your business expertise and credibility. Industry organizations bring together professionals with similar goals and challenges. Members of industry organizations come from all company divisions, but all share the same objective of expanding their knowledge in air pollution control.

Becoming a member of the right organization opens the door to a wealth of expertise. You will be exposed to many networking opportunities, information and resources. Additionally, air pollution groups may also provide invaluable services that include new products, education opportunities and support. When looking for membership with an air pollution group, remember the following:

1. Exclusive, member-only offers and benefits include professional discounts for events and conferences.

2. You have a resource to turn to with questions or concerns regarding your business.

3. Many air pollution organizations don’t stipulate membership for certification.

Action Steps
The best contacts and resources to help you get it done

Pick air pollution organizations with online resources and tools you can use

You can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of your business by picking an organization that offers online access to member tools and resources. Many organizations offer newsletters containing up-to-date industry news on industry issues and trends. Additionally, you may have access to a news feed, industry publications, and industry mentors.

I recommend: The Institute of Clean Air Companies, is a non-profit that offers a selection of products and services to members. The National Association of Clean Air Agencies offers a directory of air pollution control agencies, including state and federal air pollution organizations. Industry groups are also on the list.

Join air pollution groups with online resources and tools you can use

Take advantage of educational programs and tools to learn about current clean air initiatives and find out what you can do to help. Many organizations offer information on upcoming seminars, conferences, workshops and other programs.

I recommend: Clean Air-Cool Planet provides the Clean Air-Cool Planet's Partner Program, which includes a business partnership program and a higher education climate initiative. The Manufacturers of Emission Controls Association promotes clean air technologies at the state and federal level. They offer reports on Environmental Protection Agency policies and other scholarly research.

Join an air pollution control association that offers a full schedule of events and conferences

Events and conferences are a boon to any cause or industry. They give you an opportunity to network and share issues with your peers. More importantly, they provide you an opportunity to further your relationships with other businesses or individuals concerned with air pollution control.

I recommend: The Air & Waste Management Association offers a comprehensive calendar of events, including national conferences and section & chapter events. The Institute of Clean Air Companies offers many networking events exclusively for members.
