Company Description
The Berkshire Energy Resources distributes and markets natural gas for residential, commercial and industrial use and is also engaged in the transportation of natural gas for larger industrial users. The company has an appliance rental division which markets and leases gas burning equipment. The main utility service territory includes 19 cities and towns in western Massachusetts. Through its Berkshire propane division the company markets liquified petroleum gas throughout the western portion of Messachusetts, eastern New York and southern Vermont. The company serves over 32,000 natural gas and 5,000 propane customers. In November 1999, the company signed a definitive agreement with Energy East Corporation under which the company will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Energy East. This transaction is expected to close by June 2000.
