Ashland Incorporated. The Group's principal activity is to perform contract construction work. The Group's activities are carried out through five segments namely: APAC, Ashland distribution, Ashland specialty chemical, Valvoline and Refining and marketing. APAC performs ashpalt and concrete construction work including highway paving and repair, excavation and grading and bridge construction. Ashland distribution distributes industrial chemicals and solvents, plastics, fiber reinforcements and fine ingredients and also provides environmental and energy management services. Specialty Chemical manufactures and sells variety of chemicals, resins and petrochemicals. Valvoline produces and markets premium packaged motor oil and automotive chemicals. Refining is carried out through Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC. Construction accounted for 35% of fiscal 2002 revenues; Chemical, Plastic and Fiber, 34%; Specialty Chemicals, 16% and Motor oil and Automotive chemicals, 15%.
