American General Finance Corporation. The Group's principal activities are to provide consumer finance and credit insurance businesses. It operates in three business segments: Branch, Centralized Real Estate and Insurance. The Branch segment makes home equity loans, originates secured and unsecured consumer loans, extends lines of credit, and purchases retail sales contracts from and provides revolving retail services for retail merchants. The centralized real estate business segment originates real estate loans for transfer to the centralized real estate servicing center. The Insurance segment writes and reinsures credit life, credit accident and health, credit-related property and casualty, credit involuntary unemployment and non-credit insurance. At 31-Dec-2006, the Group owned and operated 1,502 offices in 44 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. On 02-Jan-2007, it acquired Ocean Finance and Mortgages Limited.
