In 1998, variable economic ownership was introduced; the percentage of the economic interest of Fortis (NL) (previously known as Fortis Amev) and Fortis (B) (previously known as Fortis AG) in Fortis may vary between 30% and 70%. The controlling and voting rights of Fortis (B) and Fortis (NL) in Fortis remain equally divided. In December 2000, the economic interest of Fortis (B) and Fortis (NL) in Fortis stood at 57% and 43% respectively. Fortis' insurance activities include life insurance as well as accident, health & other non-life insurance. Its banking activities cover all aspects of financial services provision, including corporate & private banking, asset management as well as bancassurance.
