Company Description
Compagnie UAP (UAP) SA (formerly known as Union des Assurances de Paris (UAP) SA) is the number one insurance group in France. The company has life and general risk insurance activities. It also has banking, real estate and investment activities. UAP is also France's second largest institutional investor, with shareholdings in some of the major companies listed on the Paris Stock Exchange. The company became fully privatised in May 1994 when the French government sold its 53% stake in UAP. The group's banking interests include investments in Banque Worms and Banque IPPA. UAP has investments in 13 EU countries, America, Africa and Asia-60 countries in total. Life and non-life premiums accounted for 73% of 1996 revenues; investment income, 21%; banking income, 4% and gain/loss on sale of securities, 2%.
