ALLIED Group Inc, through its subsidiaries, provides property-casualty insurance, investment services, excess and surplus lines insurance and data processing services. The companys property-casualty segment operates through three subsidiaries: AMCO Insurance Company, ALLIED Property and Casualty Insurance Company and Depositors Insurance Company. This segment underwrites personal lines and small commercial lines and operates exclusively in the United States: primarily in the central and western states. Property-casualty insurance accounted for 86% of 1997 revenues and excess surplus lines insurance and other, 14%.
