Guide to Using Investment Banking Education and Training

Educate your employees using investment banking education and training

By Kristan Hart

Investment banking courses are a great way to make sure all of your investment banking employees are at the top of their game. The investment banking industry quickly changes with the market. To provide your customers top-notch service, you need employees with solid investment bank analyst training.

Some employers require their employees to have degrees in investment banking, but others choose to provide lessons in investment banking to the entire firm. No matter where you are in your business, you can find investment banking classes to stay ahead of the competition. To maximize training in your firm, consider:

1. Corporate investment banking courses

2. Investment banking seminars

3. Investment banking certification requirements

Action Steps
The best contacts and resources to help you get it done

Train all of your employees with a corporate investment banking training course

Corporate courses in investment banking allow you to train all of your employees on-site, meaning you don't have to pay for travel expenses and time out of the office. Corporate investment banking education means all of your employees receive the same training, and you can provide your customers consistent service and information.

I recommend: Wall Street Prep provides corporate training to investment banks and other financial firms worldwide. You can choose an instructor-led class, or you can take advantage of their online investment banking training options. Wall St. Training offers corporate training options for current professionals, new hires and lateral hires. They’ll tailor your investment banking course to your company’s specific needs and will work with you before and after your investment bank analyst training session to maximize training.

Enroll your employees in investment banking seminars

Instead of investment banking classes, which can take days or even weeks to complete, consider investment banking seminars. This is a great way to learn investment banking information without a huge investment of time and money. Investment banking seminars are often a great way to stay ahead of the curve because they provide a concise teaching of the latest news and trends regarding investment banking.

I recommend: TrainUp.com offers a list of investment banking seminars that may interest you and your employees. You can even click on the U.S. map to see if there are seminars in a city near you. Visit the FMI Management Consulting website, where you can download a current list of their available investment banking seminars or you can check out their Seminar Digest. AppleTreeInvestments.com offers a free investment banking seminar in cities across the United States.

Require investment bankers to earn a CFA Charter as investment banking certification

As an employer, you want to provide all the training necessary for your firm to succeed. However, investment banking certification is something that your employees must do on their own. Having investment bankers who meet standards to qualify for a CFA Charter is great for your business, because it's an achievement not everyone can reach.

I recommend: The CFA Institute website details the CFA Program and what it takes to become a CFA Charter. Investopedia offers a detailed description of CFA and why it’s an important investment banking certification to obtain.

Tips & Tactics

Helpful advice for making the most of this Guide

  • •  Even though employees are out of the office during investment banking classes, you can offer your support by paying employees for their time. Investment banking training is necessary in this industry, and your business will prosper if you support your employees who choose to take an investment banking course.

Guide to Investment Banking Education and Training.

Jumpstart your financial career with investment banking training

By Nikki Wheeler

A career in investment banking is a promising one. An investment banker may work within a department of a bank or for a private investment institution. Investment bankers work with corporations on issues related to security, mergers, and business acquisitions.

An investment banker can also take care of banking for government institutions, and large companies protect them from exchange rate and interest increases when trading on a global scale and offer broking and distribution. There is a certain skill set required to be successful in an investment banking career, and those skills can be developed during investment training.

When choosing investment banking education, you must:

  1. Compare all of the investment banking programs to see which is right for you.
  2. Determine the depth of your personal and professional commitment to this field.
  3. Have interest in other related areas such as accounting and economics.
  4. Take investment banking classes at the institution that best fits your needs.

Action Steps
The best contacts and resources to help you get it done

Take online investment banking training courses

Education and training earned online is not as reputable as university investment banking training, but it does teach you the basic of the business and how to succeed at it. Most online programs are relatively low-cost, so this may be a good place to get your feet wet if you are considering a career in investment banking.

I recommend: Take online courses in investment banking from MindLearners, Meridian Information Systems or Kaplan University. Choose online investment banking education from accredited schools.

Find investment banking certification programs or short-term training

A certificate provides you with a very concentrated education in investment banking. A certificate program can usually be completed in short amount of time, usually weeks or months. It is a cheaper and quicker option if you are just looking to scratch the surface in this area.

I recommend: The Investment Banking Institute offers accelerated investment banking training.

Get a university degree

There are no specific degrees in investment banking. Many investment bankers have educational backgrounds in things such as accounting, law or economics. You can even go on to get graduate degrees in finance and investing which will only propel you further up the corporate ladder. Investment banking classes are often offered as options in undergraduate programs.

I recommend: Take an investment banking course toward a Bachelor’s degree at Gibbs College or DeVry University. Get an advanced degree diploma in investment banking from Boston University Global or New York University.

Tips & Tactics

Helpful advice for making the most of this Guide

  • •  Specialize and educate yourself in more than one area. Try taking an investment banking course at more than one institution to get a broader perspective of the industry.
  • •  Speak to investment professionals to get insider tips on the profession and investment banking seminars they attend.

Guide to Making the Most of Investment Banking Education and Training

Find the right investment banking education to launch your career

By Kristan Hart

If you want to learn investment banking, an investment banking training course is the best place to begin. Courses are available to help in every aspect of your education, from earning one of many degrees in investment banking to learn investment banking information through continuing education. You can even find classes to help you study for the tests that provide you with investment banking certification.

Making the most of investment banking education and training means you find the right education to help you get the job you want. Consider these options to help you out:

1. Enroll in investment banking classes.

2. Use online investment banking training.

3. Pass the exam to obtain certification.

Action Steps
The best contacts and resources to help you get it done

Take an investment banking training course

Investment banking courses are the foundation of the industry. Every successful investment banker requires the right investment banking education to succeed in this highly competitive industry. Rely on schools with a good reputation, so you know your investment bank analyst training will help launch you into a great job.

I recommend: Investment Banking Institute, with offices in all regions of the United States, offers investment banking classes provided on an accelerated schedule. They also offer CFA Continuing Education Credits for those interested in additional lessons in investment banking. NYU-SCPS offers a variety of investment banking training courses you can enroll in to learn more about your field. You can study everything from bankruptcy and reorganization to hedge fund strategies and strategic alliances.

Look online for an investment banking course you can take at your own pace

Online investment banking training is a great option for students on a tight schedule. These investment banking classes allow you to work at a schedule that fits for you, but you still receive top-notch investment banking education.

I recommend: Competition is fierce for jobs in investment banking, but Wall Street Prep offers Self Study Programs that allow you to obtain the training you need, but you can do so on your own schedule. Investment Banking Training Group offers a training package available through a CD-ROM and course manual to allow you to work at your own pace. Choose from their investment banking training options that allow you to work one-on-one with an expert.

Obtain investment banking certification by passing the FINRA Series 7 Exam

The FINRA Series 7 Exam provides you with the certification required to make trades with corporate securities, not including futures and commodities. To launch your investment banking career, any employer would be impressed to see you already have investment banking certification.

I recommend: Investopedia provides all the details you need to know about the FINRA Series 7 Exam. For help training for the exam, consider an investment banking training course from TFDinstitute.com.

Guide to Investment Banking Education and Training Key Terms

Consider some basic key terms for investment banking education

By Geraldine McGowan

Investment banking education and training key terms will clue you into the shorthand surrounding investment banking education. Generally, in investment banking education and training, seminars are less taxing than programs or courses. Within the investment banking industry, several types of exams are referred to by name, without any indication as to what they are or what they provide to investment professionals. Knowing these key terms will help you navigate investment banking education and training.

Action Steps
The best contacts and resources to help you get it done

Investment banking education

There are savants around who got into investment banking without higher education, but they are few and far between. Generally, investment banking education refers to at least a BA, but more likely an MBA, too. There are specialties within investment banking education, such as mergers and acquisitions, advisory and legal analysis.

I recommend: Education Portal provides a list of defining kinds of schools, programs and courses that provide investment banking educations. It also defines specific areas and types of investment banking careers that require certain kinds of banking education.

CFA Charterholder

The CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) is a nonprofit agency devoted to teaching graduate-level programs to investment professionals. It teaches high ethical standards and graduating from its program is prestigious. Those who graduate get the title CFA Charterholder. The definition of a CFA Charterholder is a person who has taken the graduate-level program and passed three exams on the subject of investment management as provided by the CFA.

I recommend: Visit the CFA Institute, which is helpful to anyone who wants to become a Charterholder.

FINRA series 7 exam

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) provides specific education for investment personnel who want to trade securities. Passing a series 7 exam is like getting a license to trade securities. It is also necessary if one wants to pursue other educational courses with FINRA.

I recommend: FINRA series 7 exam is defined by its educational requirements. Much of it has to do with laws regarding securities and investments. It is necessary to open the PDF file to get the full definition of this exam.

Investment banking certification

Investment banking certification is a general term for certificate courses that will allow investment professionals to extend the reach of their professional duties.

I recommend: Investopedia lists other certificate programs offered by FINRA, the CFA and Canada's financial authorities with explanatory information on what these programs provide.

Investment banking seminars

Investment banking seminars are less stringent modes of higher learning than certificate courses. The seminars are run by private companies and have more to do with the career of an investment professional-although there are very good learning opportunities to be had.

I recommend: The Investment Banking Institute provides good descriptive definitions of the kinds of teachings available in investment banking seminars and how the seminars are structured.

Corporate training

Corporate training is a generalized term for all sorts of programs. These programs come in all shapes and sizes but are generally less book-and-study oriented-the emphasis is on training. Corporate training focuses a lot on management, leadership, sales and other business skills that are adaptable to investment banking.

I recommend: Dale Carnegie wrote the book on getting ahead in corporate settings. The short seminar programs are good examples of the difference between a certification program and, say, a two-day seminar on leadership training.
