Company Description
Illovo Sugar Limited(ILLOVO). The Group's principal activities are producing sugar and manufacturing downstream products. The Group's downstream products are primarily aimed at export markets, the Merebank and Glendale distilleries remains to be a material supplier of ethyl alcohol to the liquor, pharmaceutical and industrial chemical industries. Relatively small volumes of furfural and its derivatives, as well as lactulose, are traditionally sold on the local South African market. The Group also produces a range of syrups and specialty sugars mainly for the domestic market. The Group's operations are strategically located across the eastern section of KwaZulu-Natal incorporating the coastal, midlands and northern irrigated can growing regions. The Group also has sugar production in Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, Swaziland and Tanzania. Sugar Production accounted for 71% of fiscal 2006 revenues; Cane Growing, 20% and Downstream, 9%
