Guide to Nursing Organizations

Increase your business exposure at nursing organizations

By Linda C. Ray

Professional nursing organizations offer a slew of opportunities to put your business in position to receive positive recognition and increase sales. In addition to the members of the nursing group who work within the industry in some capacity, you will have opportunities to meet and get to know other nursing council members, including those in businesses like yourself that support nursing organizations.

Affiliation with professional nursing organizations provides lobbying and networking opportunities that can be immensely helpful to your own business interests while you support the industry. Membership in a nursing group often means access to information and contacts that can be important to your own company. A regional nursing association offers even more opportunities to network with local business leaders in your community. Approach your membership in a professional nursing association from a variety of perspectives.

1. Expand your network through national nursing organizations

2. Support the industry by participating in nursing organizations

3. Land a better job through nursing group connections

Action Steps
The best contacts and resources to help you get it done

Develop business contacts in a nursing service organization

Nursing organizations hold regular meetings, seminars and conventions for members and interested parties. At nursing council events, as well as through various committees in which you can participate, you will have many occasions to socialize and network with other business people who support and work within the nursing association. The business leaders you meet could offer a number of trade opportunities for you and your company.

I recommend: The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners is a large nursing organization where you can develop many industry leads and contacts. Amercian Assembly for Men in Nursing is a growing niche nursing group that could open the way for enormous marketing opportunities for you.

Demonstrate your interest by joining an organization for nurses

If you want to do business with nurses and nursing companies, you will want to show your support while building relationships with national and local leaders in the industry. You often can do this best by participating in professional nursing organizations with both your presence and your financial support.

I recommend: The National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners is a nursing association with a huge membership for getting your foot into the industry. another group of nurses that support children’s health issues is the Society of Pediatric Nurses.

Show off your skills at a professional nursing association

Whether you are just breaking into nursing or you are looking to further your career through a move to another company, you can make some great contacts at a professional nursing organization. While working with the group and building relationships, you can utilize the educational portions of most nursing organizations as well as prove yourself as a stable volunteer.

I recommend: The American Association of Critical Care Nurses offers tremendous amount of certification and educational opportunities and can open up a slew of jobs offers once you get connected. Join the American Nursing Association for a multitude of options for getting involved in the industry.
