Thyssen AG (Thyssen) is the holding of a diversified group of industrial, trading and service companies. The company's activities are divided into three main groups: capital goods/manufacturing, trade/services and steel production. The capital goods/manufacturing group is comprised of Thyssen Industrie AG (metal components, machine tools, elevators and lifts, military equipment, magnetic railway systems, ship building, project engineering services), the Budd Company (automobile components) and the Wuelfrather Group (construction materials). The trading and services group (Thyssen Handelsunion AG) trades on a global scale in steel, metals, synthetic materials, construction materials, fuels, and recycleable materials, as well as providing engineering consultancy and repair services. The steel production business unit (Thyssen Stahl AG) manufactures steel forms and components. With legal effect from the 1. of March 1999 and economic effect from the 1. of October 1998 Thyssen AG and Fried. Krupp AG Hoesch-Krupp will merge into the new Thyssen Krupp AG. Fried.Krupp AG Hoesch-Krupp is a worldwide group of companies which manufacture and market steel, steel products, machinery and automotive components. Thyssen has subsidiaries in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Spain, the United States and Brazil. Trading and services accounted for 37% of fiscal 1998 revenues; steel production, 33%; capital goods and industrial products, 30%.
