Alltrista Corporation operates under two product segments namely metal products and plastic products. The metal products segment comprises of Zinc and consumer products. Under the consumer product segment the company markets a line of home food preservation products which includes Ball(TM), Kerr(TM), Bernardin and Golden Harvest(TM) brand home canning jars and jar closures and related food products. Under zinc products the company produces copper plated zinc penny blanks for the United States Mint and Royal Canadian Mint, cans for use in zinc/carbon batteries, zinc strip and a line of industrial zinc products. The plastic product segment includes thermoformed industrial parts and propriety products, injection molded products and plastic packaging. The company is mainly operating in the United States and Canada. The customers of the company are wholesale and retail customers who are principally food, hardware and mass merchants. The list of customers include major companies in food and food businesses. The subsiadiaries of the company include Alltrista Unimark, Inc., Bernardin Ltd, Alltrista Ltd, Quoin Corporation and Hearthmark Inc. The company acquired the net assets of Synergy World, Inc. in June 2000. Metal products accounted for 53% of 1999 revenues and plastic products, 47%.
