DTM Corporation designs, develops, manufactures and markets rapid prototyping and tooling systems and related powdered sintering materials. This technology is based on a selective laser sintering system which enables the fabrication of three-dimensional solid models or prototypes directly from computer aided design (CAD) data files. The laser sintering technology uses laser energy to melt and fuse powdered material to create a solid object. The company offers the customers solutions for streamlining prototyping and manufacturing processes, verifying product designs, creating functional prototypes, production of quality samples or final parts and creating tooling to manufacture 50 to 10,000 end use parts. Customers of the company include manufacturers, universities, military and defense organizations and service bureaus. The company sells its products in North America, Europe and Pacific Rim. Selective laser sintering systems accounted for 86% of 1999 revenues and service and support, 14%.
