- Understand that Type II anodizing increases the thickness of the aluminum coating by one-third and Type III (hard coat) increases it by one-half. For example, if a part with a coating that is 0.6 mm thick is subjected Type II anodizing, the thickness of the coating will increase by 0.2 mm.
