Guide to Hoppers

Choosing the right self-dumping hopper for you.

There are as many types of hoppers as there are uses for them. There are standard self dumping hoppers that are for use with a forklift. These hoppers also come in a low profile design. These hoppers can also come with the option of having casters so that the user can easily move the hopper without the assistance of a forklift or pallet truck. These hoppers generally come in light duty, medium duty and heavy duty models. These generally come in 10, 12 and 7 gauge steel. Another hopper that is simular to the standard self dumpiing hopper is bottom dump hopper. This works in a simular way, except the contents are dumped out the bottom of the hopper in stead of the usual forward dump of most hoppers. There are also chute type hoppers, these hoppers dump by the front panel of the hopper coming open to dump the contents. If a forklift is not available at your business there are hopper options to fit your needs as well.

These include hoppers with traction drive. These hoppers work very much like the standard self dumping hoppers with the exception they come with a drive system. This enables the user to easily move the hopper with a full heavy load.

The standard self dumping hoppers have options available to fit specific needs. If you are using your hopper to move lightweight material you can get a lid. These lids can be custom made to hook up discharge tubes for use with sanders and other equipment that discharges unwanted material.

There are also towable hoppers. These hoppers can be moved by hooking them to a vehicle with a towball. Many plants and construction applications prefer this type of hopper.

One last concideration is the size of your hopper. Self dumping hoppers general come in 1/4 cubic yard up to 5 cubic yard capacities, and weight capacities of 2,000 pounds to 8,000 pounds. There are larger options up to 10 cubic yards.

Consult an expert and they can help you pick a hopper and options to best fit your needs.
