Compagnie de Suez (Suez) SA is a major French banking and insurance group with more than fifty percent of its assets outside France and has operations in 85 countries. Suez is one of the 10 largest companies listed on the Paris Stock Exchange. The company has investments in Banque Indosuez, Societe Generale de Belgique and Credisuez as well as industrial and real estate activities. In 1996, the company sold its remaining interest in Unibail to institutional investors and sold the majority shareholding of Banque Indosuez to Credit Agricole. Industrial and services sectors accounted for 36% of 1996 revenues; specialist financial services (including reinsurance activities), 30%; interest, other banking and security income, 25%; real estate, 7% and other, 2%.
