Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc.. The Group's principal activities are to collect, process and recycle metals and to manufacture finished steel products. The Group operates in three segments: Metals Recycling, Auto Parts and Steel Manufacturing. The metals recycling business buys and processes ferrous metals for sale to foreign and other domestic steel producers .The auto parts business purchases salvaged vehicles, sells parts from those vehicles through its retail facilities and wholesale operations, and sells the remaining portion of the vehicles to metal recyclers. The steel manufacturing business produces reinforcing bar (rebar), merchant bar, wire rod, coiled rebar and other specialty products. The customers of the Group are steel service centers, construction industry subcontractors, steel fabricators, wire drawers and major farm and wood product suppliers.
