The company's controls division designs and manufactures advanced machining equipment, laser systems, quality control equipment and cutting systems for the automotive, aerospace, electronics and steel industries. The group has operations in the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Australia. During 1998 the group acquired CREMSA and 70% of Farnell & Thomas Limited. Manufacturing of high volume components accounted for 84% of 1998 revenues and controls, 16%.
