Covance Inc.. The Group's principal activity is to provide a wide range of product development services, on a worldwide basis. The Group provides services primarily to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries. The Group also provides laboratory-testing services to the chemical, agrochemical and food industries. The operations of the Group are carried out through two segments. The Late-stage Development services segment includes central laboratory, clinical development, commercialization and other clinical support services. The Early Development services segment includes preclinical and Phase I clinical service capabilities. The operations of this segment involve evaluating a new compound for safety and early effectiveness as well as evaluating the absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of the compound in the human body.
