Small molecule drugs are non-protein products produced by chemical synthesis. The Group's three product candidates that are currently under development: EFAPROXYN (efaproxiral), PDX (pralatrexate) and RH1. EFAPROXYN (efaproxiral) is a synthetic small molecule that has the potential to sensitize hypoxic (oxygen deprived) tumor tissues and enhance the efficacy of standard radiation therapy. PDX is an injectable small molecule chemotherapeutic agent that has a superior potency and toxicity profile relative to methotrexate and other related dihydrofolate reductase inhibitors. RH1 is a small molecule chemotherapeutic agent that is bioactivated by the enzyme DT-diaphorase, or DTD, which is over-expressed in many tumors relative to normal tissue, including lung, colon, breast and liver tumors.
