Waagner-Biro AG (WB-AG), founded in 1854 and publicly traded since 1901, is the holding company of a group of structural steel construction and engineering firms. WB-AG builds bridges, stage sets, steel cable ropeways for gondolas and performs other specialised steel construction work. The company also manufactures industrial machinery, such as overhead traveling cranes, as well as industrial air, smoke & water filter systems for power plants & waste incineration facilities. In addition, WB-AG provides machinery installation, corrosion protection and other services. The company is also involved in the manufacture of water quality monitoring & control systems and analysis equipment for the petrochemical industry. WB-AG owns 50% of Austrian Energy & Environment SGP/Waagner-Biro GmbH, one of Austria's largest manufacturers of thermal energy generating equipment. WB-AG has Austrian, German and Spanish subsidiaries. Steel construction accounted for 54% of 1994 revenues; machine construction, 25%; filter technology, 6%; installation work, 3%; corrosion protection services, 3% and other, 9%.
