Butler Manufacturing Co. The Group's principal activities are to design, manufacture and market building systems and components for nonresidential structures. The Group operates through five segments. The North American Building and International Building Systems segments provide custom designed and pre-engineered steel and wood frame building systems for commercial, industrial and community uses. The Architectural Products segment designs, manufactures and markets aluminum systems for nonresidential construction. The Construction Services segment provides construction management services for purchasers of large, complex and multiple-site building projects. The Real Estate segment provides build-to-suit-to-lease development services for corporations. International Building Systems conducts operations in China, Saudi Arabia and Hungary. In December 2003, the Group announced the permanent closure of the Birmingham, Alabama metal buildings plant, which prior to the announcement was idled.
