Scancem AB is a market leader in the production of heavy mineral-based building materials including cement, clinker, limestone, masonry and concrete products, gravel, shingle, macadam and plasterboard. The company is also involved in the recycling of industrial waste and international trading in cement and clinker. The company's priority markets includes the countries in the Baltic Sea and north Sea regions. Scancem AB's 75-percent stake in the Gyproc Group was sold to the minority owner BPB plc in 1998. Heidelberger Zement owns 73.4% of shares in Scancem at the end of July, 1999 and has made an offer to purchase the remaining shares. Production of cement accounted for 52% of 1998 revenues; masonry products, 19%; concrete products, 15%; gravel, shingle, macadam and other materials, 9%; plasterboard, 4% and other, 1%.
