ElderTrust. The Group's principal activity is that of a real estate investment trust. The Group invests in senior housing and other healthcare facilities, primarily skilled nursing facilities, assisted and independent living facilities and medical office and other buildings. The Company has been approved as an Investment Trust Company under Sections 856 through 860 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. Assisted living facilities provide services to aid in activities of daily living such as meals, recreation, medication supervision and other. Independent living facilities offer specially designed residential units for active and ambulatory elderly residents. Skilled nursing facilities provide inpatient skilled nursing, custodial services, rehabilitative and transition medical services. The medical office and other buildings provide space for practicing physicians and other healthcare professionals.
