The Group's principal activity is to invest in adjustable and variable rate mortgage (ARM) assets comprised of ARM securities and ARM loan, thereby providing capital to the single family residential housing market. The Group has elected to be taxed as a Real Estate Investment Trust and complies with the provisions of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. The Group has a wholly owned mortgage-banking subsidiary, Thornburg Mortgage Home Loans, Inc., which conducts mortgage loan acquisition and origination activities. The Group acquires single-family residential mortgage loans through bulk acquisitions, correspondent lending and direct lending. As of Dec 31, 2006, it had 234 approved mortgage brokerage firms. The Group does not originate or acquire investments outside of the United States of America.
