The Group's principal activity is that of a multifamily real estate company providing property acquisition, advisory, development, management, disposition, operation and ownership activities. It is a qualified real estate investment trust under the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended. The Group operates through four segments: The Acquisition or Disposition segment consists of acquired or developed properties, which have not yet reached stabilization; Market Rate segment provides same-store conventional residential properties; Affordable Housing segment provides multifamily properties with subsidized rents and Management and Service Operations segment provides management and advisory services to other segments of the Group and to third parties. As on 31- Dec-2006, the Group owns, manages or is a joint venture partner in 99 multifamily properties containing a total of 20,558 units.
