The Group qualifies as a real estate investment trust under sections 856-860 of the Internal Revenue Code, as amended. The Group owns, acquires, develops and manages multifamily apartment communities in seven targeted metropolitan markets of the western United States. As of 31-Dec-2006, the Group had 81 wholly or majority-owned apartment communities totaling 22,680 units, nine multifamily communities owned in joint ventures, comprised of 2,672 apartment units and ten wholly or majority owned apartment communities in various stages of construction and development, totaling 2,194 units.
