General Growth Properties, Inco.. The Group is a self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust, referred to as a 'REIT'. It operates in two segments: Retails and Master Planned Communities. The Retails segment includes the operation, development and management of retail and other rental property, primarily shopping centers. The Master Planned Communities segment includes the development and sale of land, primarily in large-scale, long-term community development projects in and around Columbia, Maryland, Summerlin, Nevada and Houston, Texas. The shopping centers are located in the major and middle markets of the United States. It has elected to be taxed as a real estate investment trust for federal income tax purposes. As of 31-Dec-2006, it has ownership interest in and management responsibility for a portfolio of over 200 regional shopping malls in 44 states. On 06-Apr-2006, the Group acquired 49% interest in GGP Ivanhoe IV, Inc. Owns, operates, manages, leases, acquires, develops, expands and finances retail and other rental properties
