Meinl (Julius) Aktiengesellschaft is a holding company with subsidiaries that operates a national chain of food stores and food production plants. The company's main business operations are food trade in Hungary, food retail trade in the Czech Republic, the distribution of tea and coffee in Slovakia, and the operation of a coffee roasting plant. In 1995 Meinl (Julius) acquired a controlling interest in the Czech retailing network of Pramen Brno a.s., which is now renamed to Julius Meinl Morava a.s.. Also in 1995 Meinl (Julius) had 247 stores with a total sales area of 99,970 square meters, 44,058 of which opened this year. The company sold 4,291 tonnes of coffee in 1995. The company has subsidiaries in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Italy, Slovakia, and Poland.
