Akiyama Inc. was a pharmaceutical wholesaler established in Sapporo, Hokkaido in 1948, became publicly held in November 1992 and merged into Suzuken Co., Ltd, another pharmaceutical wholesaler, on April 1, 1998. Wholesale of pharmaceuticals and related products accounted for 99% of fiscal 1998 revenues; information system related business including software development and sale of equipment and supplies, construction works and other, 1%. The company had seven consolidated subsidiaries, six in Japan and one in the United States. Overseas sales accounted for less than 10% of fiscal 1998 revenues.
