Disco S.A. is one of the leading food retailers in Argentina, operating 109 supermarkets under the Disco, Elefante and La Gran Provision names. The main business of these stores include the purchase, sale, import, export, consignment, distribution and retail packaging of food, beverages, home appliances, apparel, household goods, health and beauty aids and any other activity related to the supermarket business. In April 1996 the company made its initial public offering and its shares became listed on the New York and Buenos Aires Stock Exchanges. Disco is the sole supermarket chain in Argentina that is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. 1998 profits showed a 41% increase on the previous year.
