Fred's Inc. The Group's principal activity is to operate through a chain of discount general merchandise stores in fourteen states primarily in the Southeastern United States. The Group provides a wide range of general merchandise including pharmaceuticals, household products, apparel and linens, food and tobacco products, health and beauty aids and paper and cleaning supplies. It operates 621 discount general merchandise stores and 24 franchised Fred's stores. The Group has 275 in-store pharmacies that provide brand name and generic pharmaceuticals and are staffed by licensed pharmacists. It also has 16 stand-alone Xpress locations, which sell pharmaceuticals and other health and beauty related items.
