Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.. The Group's principal activity is the operation of retail stores in various formats. It operates in three segments. The Wal-Mart Stores segment operate three different retail formats: Discount Stores, Supercenters and Neighbourhood Markets. The International segment consists of several different formats of retail stores and restaurants including discount stores, Supercenters and SAM'S CLUB'S that operate outside the United States. The SAM'S CLUB segment consists of membership warehouse clubs. The Group operates in the United States, the United Kingdom, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, South Korea, Mexico and Puerto Rico. As on 31-Jan-2006, the Group operated in 1,209 discount stores, 1,980 Supercenters, 567 SAM'S CLUBs and 100 Neighbourhood Markets in the United States. It also operates 2,229 units internationally. On 14-Dec-2005, the Group acquired Sonae Distribuicao Brasil S.A., The Seiyu, Ltd. and a controlling interest in CARHCO in February 2006.
