Avici Systems Inc.. The Company develops data networking equipment that enables communication service providers to transmit high volumes of information across fibre optic networks. The Company's Avici Terabit Switch Router product (TSR) is engineered to provide a long-term solution for the next-generation carrier networks by providing a platform for the growth and control of increasing volumes of data traffic. Till date all of the Company's revenue has been derived through a distribution arrangement with Nortel to GST Telecom for deployment in a segment of The National Transparent Optical Network. Enron Broadband Services and Williams Communications have agreed to future purchases of the TSR, subject to satisfactory completion of field trials. The Company's international sales are conducted through systems integrators and distributors in Japan and Korea. The competitors of the Company include Cisco Systems, Lucent Technologies and others.
