Stena Line AB is an international transport and travel service company and one of the world's largest ferry companies. The company's network includes 12 strategically situated ferry routes in Scandinavia and the United Kingdom, including a lift-on, lift-off freight route. The company has interests in three other routes through its partownership of P&O Stena Line and collaboration with another ferry operator. The company has a modern fleet of 25 vessels, consisting of fast HSS ferries, traditional multi-purpose ferries, ropax ferries for freight and passengers and roro ferries purely for freight. During 1999, 9.1 million passengers travelled on the company's routes and almost 1.8 million cars and 712,000 freight units were being transported. The company also operates hotels and travel agencies and provides computer services. On January 31, 1999, the Halmstad-Grenaa route was closed. During 1999 the company acquird Scandlines AB. Ticket, hotel and travel agency sales accounted for 41% of 1999 revenues; onboard services, 30%; freight and harbour services, 29%.
