Chanic SA constructs and repairs ships, boilerworks and foundries, manufactures pumps, tooling & other equipment, installs & maintains air conditioning & refrigeration systems, lifts and computer systems, distributes and maintains vehicles and distributes civil engineering machinery mainly in Central Africa. The group consists of Chanic SA and its 97% held subsidiary Chanic International (Luxembourg) SA. Its African holdings, which comprise the majority of its assets, are not consolidated due to continuing political instability in the region. In March 2000 Finoutremer acquired 56% of Chanic SA. The group holds significant interests in companies in Zaire, Burundi, Rwanda, Ivory Coast, Congo and Senegal.
